The Good Fight Fought

I started this blog just over a year ago because I needed a wall to yell at while I was dealing with some serious heartbreak. I think the act of creating something as dreamy, immaterial and frivolous as this was good for me, but now at the end I realize that I wasn’t just poking at the membrane of disappointment, I was in fact continually resuscitating something I should have let die a long time ago. Lesson learned.

If maintaining this blog was my way of symbolically maintaining a connection to someone, through some of the saddest songs ever written, quotes, artwork, and a few jokes, then quitting it is equally symbolic. I’ve learned a few lessons this year; Never be the last one to leave a party, You can’t kill something if it’s already dead, and don’t sleep with your ex.

11. The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night

Is it Low meeting the Arcade Fire?  Broken Social Scene  disguised as My Bloody Valentine?  No!  It is the Besnard Lakes, the third-coolest husband/wife combo in indie rock.  Glacial tempos and guitar haze rule their latest effort, but it never quite loses itself to meandering atmospherics.   Due largely to no-nonsense, steadfast drumming, Are The Roaring Night retains its rocknroll edge even its lushest moments, a trick that eludes many of the Besnard Lake’s fellow Montrealians (looking at you Silver Mt. Zion).
